MainStreet Design Build Repairs Severely Sagging Roof in a 3-Story Historic Home Using Superior Design Innovation

Birmingham, MI – May 15, 2018 – Homeowners of a 100-year old, 3-story Pleasant Ridge home connected with MainStreet Design Build to repair a sagging roof and add a new 3rd story dormer. After much planning and preparation, the MainStreet production team shored up the original collar tile construction in the attic and dropped in a new triple 24-inch-high by 30-foot-wide ridge beam using a 5-ton residential boom truck crane.

The ridge beam was prepped, nailed together, and braced vertically with a team of skilled carpenters. Precise measurements were used to nail the lam beams together, cut to the exact size. Then, a 5 ½” opening was made in the entire roof line. After slicing the roof in half where the peaks come together and inserting a bottle jack under each rafter, the roof was pump-jacked to the desired location and pitch.

Remarkably, the boom truck crane was in and out of the jobsite in less than an hour. During this time, the oversized ridge beam was picked up and set into the opening in the roof, secured and sandwiched back into the collar beam. All of this went together in a seamless fashion due to the care and expertise of both a dedicated design staff and expert team of carpenters.

“When our clients first came to us in early 2018, they were hoping to add a dormer onto the 3rd floor for a large home office,” explained owner Steve Ramaekers. “Structurally, we had to first address the immediate issue with their 3-4” sagging roof and structural problems. Precise measurements and a lot of preparation ahead of time allowed us to secure the 30-foot ridge beam in less than an hour, with no hick ups.”

What an amazing group of individuals from the top on down. Main Street touts itself as taking the worry out of your project from beginning to end. And that is so true! What a great group of people. For my project, I only had a select few. But, from Steve and Christine to Kevin and Rick, the experience was amazing. First, Steve put up with my details for my pergola (which he probably regrets-just kidding). Then, Rick, the project manager was always there to answer a question, or knocking on my door for any concerns. Lastly, Kevin is a treasure. I get up early and would text Kevin and he would be answering within 5 minutes. Telling me he was on any concerns I had. I could go on. The finished project is beyond my expectations. Its all in the details. The final pergola fits so well to the frame of my house, even the tiny detail around the gutter. The height is awesome. Matching my stone to pre-existing stone, makes it look like its part of the original house and not an “add on”. I am so amazed at my finished project! Additional thanks for using Walpole-this time. The detail in the pergola really is amazing. My pergola looks like no one else’s. I will definitely be using them again for projects I have in my for the future. When you give them a project, all your headaches are gone for looking for contractors.
