Q: Why “primary” instead of “master”?

A: The words “primary bedroom,” “owner’s suite,” and “master bedroom” all refer to the same domestic space: the largest bedroom in a home, likely with an en-suite bathroom. Of the three, “master bedroom” is the one currently being reexamined, leading many industry professionals to phase it out of their lexicons altogether.

MainStreet Design Build uses “primary” instead of “master” due to the negative connotations associated with the latter term. “Primary bedroom” and “primary bathroom” are used to promote inclusivity and move away from terms tied to historical oppression and dominance. This linguistic update reflects our commitment to fostering a more respectful and inclusive environment.
