BIRMINGHAM, MI – March 15, 2011 – Each year, Detroit Home Magazine holds a competition for Michigan-based designers, architects, builders and artisans. This competition offers a variety of categories for these professionals to submit works completed within Michigan or outside of Michigan.
A variety of experts from across the country review the submissions, and only “the best of the best” receive the awards.
MainStreet Design Build, a full service design through construction firm since 1991, was selected as a 2011 winner in the Additions category for a project completed on a home right here in Birmingham, Michigan.
The winning project included an addition off of the rear of an early 20th century Poppleton Park home. The added space gave the homeowner an exceptional new mud room and 1st floor laundry that now leads to a new custom kitchen and patio. Additional garage storage and an entrance from the garage into the home were also created. The original breakfast nook had a lowered ceiling which
lent itself to a stunning limestone hearth surrounding a commercial Wolf range. The oversized island was designed for comfortable seating with a luxurious hand finished 3 ½” thick cherry countertop. The hand glazed, inset cabinetry, by Plato Woodwork, was designed to fit into the home’s classic theme.
“We are, once again, honored to receive a Detroit Home Design Award”, says Steve Ramaekers, President of MainStreet Design Build. “Our region is vibrant and coming back even stronger. It’s great to see local talent being recognized for our commitment to quality workmanship in this community,” he adds.
