The owners of this 1960’s Bloomfield Hills ranch love their new neighborhood and the single-level design of their home.  However, the layout and flow of the home just didn’t work for their lifestyle.  The very small kitchen and nook up in the front of the home as well as the tight living quarters in the back needed a breath of fresh air and much expansion.

Adding a near 18’6” x 20’ addition off of the rear of the home gave our design team many options for an open kitchen layout and much needed living space for our client’s family gatherings.

Check out how our carpenters skillfully installed the rafter system for the roof of this beautiful new Bloomfield Hills home addition.  The final product produced a vaulted ceiling over the new family room, which connected to the fabulous new custom kitchen.

Completely removing the kitchen and nook from the front of the home and relocating it to fit in the new addition created a much more cohesive space for cooking, entertaining and gathering with kids and grandkids while still being on one level.

The new kitchen will feature quality built-in appliances, a large island with seating for 3-4 grandkids, closed storage for small appliances and a large buffet and pantry space for entertaining and storage. Beautiful new hardwood floors blend the original and new spaces together flawlessly.

Eventually, the open area in the front of the home will become an office and first floor laundry with a mudroom entry from the attached garage.  And down the road, our clients hope to remodel one more living space—adding a dream master suite that will make their house complete.  Just like life, this wonderful home is a work-in-progress.
