Birmingham, MI – March 24, 2020 – Each year, Metro Detroit’s design community celebrates winners of the Annual Detroit Home Design Awards honoring professionals of award-winning home design. The 16th annual event was presented by DOBI Real Estate on Tuesday, March 24th, 2020 at The Fillmore Detroit and honored MainStreet Design Build with two awards, both for the same project: 2nd place award for Exterior Use of Color (Paint, Doors, Shutters, etc.) and 3rd place award for Contemporary Architecture (up to 4,000 square feet).
This year, instead of the traditional ceremony, the Detroit Home Design Awards were hosted on a live stream presentation.
An independent panel was selected from outside Michigan. Judges were drawn from national media (print and television), respected academic institutions, and private practice, and included nationally recognized names from design and architecture. These judges reviewed hundreds of entries and chose winners from multiple categories including Details, Exteriors, Interiors, Commercial Design, and Home Design.

“Our challenge with this project was modifying the front façade of a 1951 Royal Oak Colonial into a mid-century modern,” said MainStreet’s VP and Certified Kitchen Designer Christine Ramaekers. “We started by staining the original limestone a translucent greige and painting the brick to coordinate. Then, we replaced the old box bay with symmetrical casement windows, added black trim details, and modified the entire front porch to create a focal point.”
