Birmingham, MI – June 14, 2022 – This year’s Detroit Home Design Awards were presented by DOBI Real Estate, with two 1st-place wins presented to MainStreet Design Build. “We were thrilled to attend this annual event honoring such excellence in remodeling,” beams Christine Ramaekers, Vice President of MainStreet Design Build, “and we’re even more thrilled to win first place in two categories.”
The firm’s first win was in the Laundry Room/Mudroom category.
“We completely transformed the utility room by opening it up into a large, L-shaped space,” elaborates Christine. “We first changed the layout to alleviate a tight walkway, and then moved the washer and dryer to the back of the room to make a bigger, more user-friendly area.” The rooms now flow together with a galley-style entry that incorporates locker space and a desk, message center, and built-in crates for the family’s dogs. The rear section now has a large desk where the mom can plan, craft, and wrap. “The family loved it, a crowded place livened up and easier to work within.”
MainStreet’s second first-place win was in the Small Remodel (Up to 1,000 Square Feet) category.
“The kitchen layout was challenged by a path crossing through the workspace, and the main entry point cutting through the kitchen,” says Christine. “The entry points were moved to each end, and a nook archway to the family room, rear entry, and mudroom was completely opened.” By removing all cabinetry from the rear wall, kids were offered a place to gather around the now oversized and spacious island. “Keeping the rear wall cabinet-free,” added Christine, “made it possible to add new, larger windows overlooking the gorgeous pool.”
