Exterior Renovations
Homeowner Need
Living in a 1951, Royal Oak Colonial, our client challenged us with the task of modifying the front façade into a mid-century modern.
Remodeling Solution
Staining the original limestone, a translucent greige, and painting the brick to coordinate was just the start. The old box bay was replaced with new symmetrical casement windows, and the 2nd-floor existing double-hung windows were replaced with casements to coordinate. Black trim details each of the new and existing rear and side windows; Modifying the entire front porch created the central focal point of the home’s exterior. Reducing the height of the existing porch columns emphasizes the front entry, and the suspended porch overhang detail was designed to coordinate with a new rain screen application, using Timber Tech Azek Vintage Collection mahogany finish siding. Defining the first and second floor is a black metal I-beam detail that continues across the front of the home and ties into the front porch overhang perfectly. The contrasting vertical 4-panel orange front door and wide black surround draw the eye in and create a welcoming entry. The accessories were also not overlooked – the sleek sconces, slim mailbox, and address numbers complete the finished look.
