Designing and building this 1,300 square foot lower level was so much fun for our entire staff! With new entertainment space fueling our clients’ desire for a lower level remodel—to gather with friends for ‘University of Michigan’ football Saturdays, March Madness and everything “Michigan” in between—they came to MainStreet needing an inviting, comfortable space for house guests and a plush, inviting game area for the kids to enjoy growing up.
We were lucky to work with a blank slate in this nearly new home. Keeping the bar as the main focus was critical. With elements like the gorgeous tin ceiling, custom finished distressed black wainscot and handmade wood bar top, no detail was overlooked—a perfect compliment to the reclaimed brick walls and beautiful beam work. With connections to a local artist who handcrafted and welded the steel doors to the built-in liquor cabinet, our clients were ecstatic with the results. Other bar amenities included a rear wall of stainless built-ins, including an individual refrigerator, freezer, ice maker, a 2-tap beer unit, dishwasher drawers and matching Stainless Steel sink base cabinet.
The area surrounding the bar includes a comfortable TV/sitting area and game room large enough for shuffleboard, foosball and lots of kid’s toys. All of this sits on Core-Tec wood grained flooring, for a beautiful look that will endure years of foot traffic.
The bathroom not only accommodates family and friends for game days but also has an oversized shower for overnight guests. White subway tile, restoration fixtures, and a chunky steel and marble vanity complement the urban styling in the adjacent rooms. The cozy bedroom includes oversized closets for additional storage and an egress window for natural light and safety security. All in all, this lower level is ready for many years of fun and celebration.
