Lower-Level Remodel Wet Bar

Birmingham, MI Lower-Level Remodel

Our clients have lived in this Quarton Lake home in the heart of Birmingham for 16 years. The layout had never made sense to them as the house was designed with multiple floors. The main entry floor originally included the formal dining and living rooms, along with a sunroom and powder room. Accessed at a lower level approximately seven steps down was the kitchen and family room with a side entrance to the driveway garage. This was an extremely tricky layout that left the main floor nearly uninhabitable. The lower level kitchen was outdated and made the family room very cramped.

The master suite was on a floor of its own above the family room. The existing bathroom was added later, and as a result, the homeowners had to take two steps up to get to their bathroom addition. Needless to say, the home was a plethora of steps and a somewhat dangerous and non-functional layout.

Redesigning the entire interior layout of this home was critical to its overall usability. The MainStreet Design Build team gutted the whole house, minus two 2nd floor bedrooms, and a hall bath. Then the hard work of redesigning the space began. The kitchen was moved to the main floor with a large walk-in pantry taking the place of the original dining room and powder room. The new kitchen boasts custom Omega cabinetry, Subzero and Wolf appliances, Quartz countertops, beautiful tile backsplash, and high-end LED lighting. The rarely used living room was re-created entirely into a gorgeous dining space. The overwhelming granite fireplace was covered in a new custom paneled surround, leaving only a hearth and small surround of pretty green stone.

In the lower level, a mudroom was added off of the new side entry, creating a lovely landing space for the homeowners to come in at the end of the day. The mudroom looks across to the newly relocated powder room and coat closet, creating a welcome opening into the renovated family room with a built-in bar and redesigned fireplace. Adding the bar to the new family room gave the homeowners a convenient entertaining space without having to go up and down to the first-floor kitchen continually.

Upstairs, our design team created a brand new master bedroom suite. An entry hall to the suite was built for both the new walk-in closet and master bath, giving much-needed privacy to the bedroom. The plumbing was entirely revamped to alleviate the additional steps from the original design. The master bathroom is now an enclave of warm tones with a fabulous shower and his & her vanity.

This “new” home is outfitted in a transitional style that includes custom cabinetry throughout. Crown and detailed base molding, custom millwork, gorgeous stone, tile, and unique finishes abound throughout the home. What was once an outdated, unmanageable floor plan is now a beautiful, welcoming home for our clients and their guests.
