Two Royal Oak Bungalows Receive Royal Makeovers

Award-winning MainStreet Design Build Transforms with the Power of Curb Appeal

Birmingham, MI – May 1st, 2015 – MainStreet Design Build recently completed exterior renovations of two 1950’s ‘colonial’ ranch homes (Verona Circle and Alden Place), transforming each from mundane to well-appointed urbane. Located in Royal Oak, Michigan (a quiet suburb just north of Detroit), both homes were long overdue for a facelift. This SE Michigan-based, design/build firm approached each project with the same thoughtful attention and dedication as they have done for over two decades. Transforming each exterior with the highest level of care and meticulous attention to detail. Working hand-in-hand with each of the homeowners, MainStreet’s creative solutions took both homes from a state of dated (dare we say drab?) to timeless and fab! The nuanced results below speak for themselves.

Verona Circle

before verona circleUnlike its namesake, the Verona Circle home lacked the depth of character and visual dimension that defines curb appeal and consummate good taste. Undeterred, the MainStreet team breathed much-needed new life into this outdated brick bungalow.

MainStreet’s exterior enhancements included the redesign of the front porch and garage façade – complete with carriage garage doors and coach lighting to act as both a visual ‘bridge’ element, adding renewed and consistent interest.

veronaforweb-2The newly covered entryway created a portico, complete with custom columns and a copper roof, elegantly defining the entryway and creating an intuitive transition between the inside and out. To create further dimension and detail, MainStreet bumped out the existing bay window, and added a copper roof to that section as well. To refine and complete the overall visual theme they also added copper gutters.
veronaforweb-1Then, there was the addition of the ‘gate,’ again intended to connect the disparate garage to the house. What was once dated and somewhat unwelcoming, the old, unassuming wooden gate was transformed into an elegant centerpiece for the home. With a custom stone knee wall to grace this new gate feature, the effect is a stunning entryway, conversation piece and segue between the public and private space into the yard.

Arden Place Home

Arden PalceArden Place was a fairly typical 1950’s ‘colonial ranch,’ complete with hodgepodge brick and dated siding. MainStreet’s smart and inventive enhancements literally brought this house back to life.

By accentuating and extending the two-tiered roofline, the house was given greater dimension and visual complexity. This allowed MainStreet to cover the front porch and add a new design feature, the distinctive columns. The effect gave a strong architectural presence and hierarchy to the front door, creating more unified lines and views.

ardenforweb-1ardenforweb-2Replacing the outdated sandstone below the bay window was a MainStreet priority. With new flagstone and a well-appointed pergola over the breezeway, the new front porch was seamlessly integrated.

Lastly, the addition of raised-panel shutters on the front gable and garage were well complimented with cedar shake siding.
To complete this much-needed exterior renovation, MainStreet also added a large, covered porch in the back, mimicking some of the most essential details in the front of the home.  Verona is now literally transformed – fresh, welcoming, distinctive and lovely in both appearance and function.
“Never underestimate the power of curb appeal, “says Steven Ramaekers, President of MainStreet Design Build. “While our clients understand the tangible benefits of an updated exterior, many are surprised by all the intangibles. An exterior face-lift not only adds value to the house, it also makes it an inviting place to come home to.”

ardenforweb-3Dedicated to providing every client with the very best in turnkey, design/build services, MainStreet ensures that every luxurious detail is well considered and every aspect of each select project is done correctly.
